October is Anniversary Month!

Thinking back on the last couple years, its amazing how far we've come, and how graciously our town has accepted us and allowed us to grow!  It's hard to imagine what it was like without the coffee shop.  Here are a few of the first pictures snapped just before the shop opened, and some of the first shots of Open Mic.

The original sign by Delmar.

The first set up, before we had much furniture.

The view from behind the counter. The walls look so bare!

Our Open Mic has been extremely popular and well-received by local musicians off all ages.  As word spread that a coffeehouse in Monongahela had a great music scene, music enthusiasts came from all around to crowd in on Open Mic Nights.  Here are a few of the first images captured of "OMN @ MCS".

Here is a before and after comparison of the storefront.

Prior to renovations it was a dusty, narrow shop with fluorescent lighting and water damage.  After we raised the ceiling, took down the walls, reconstructed, painted, and installed new flooring and lighting, it was fit for a real coffeehouse to move in.  However, a coffeehouse is nothing without people.  People to sing, read, play games and music, communicate, fellowship, learn and build together.  Its the customers, family, friends of My Coffee Shop that have made it a real coffeehouse, and made it "their own".
We are honored and happy to be your coffee shop!!

Bubble Tea

Bubble Tea is back! In two delightful fall flavors. Rooibos Spice and Honeyed Chai.

Bubble Tea originated in Taiwan. The drink is a tea based made with either fruit purees/syrups or milk. At the base of the drink are sweet, chewy tapioca pearls that you sip up through the straw like bubbles. Its novelty is what makes it fun. It's also delicious. So, why not stop in and try one?

Amaretto Vanilla Latte

Amerreto Vanilla Latte.

Transport yourself to Italy with this delicious latte.  Amaretto is a sweet, almond-liqueur famous in Italy. The bitter sweetness of the amaretto compliments the espresso in the latte very well.  Then vanilla syrup wraps everything together in a velvety sweetness.

Try it with an amaretto biscotti!

Just don't lose the biscotti in your cup.

Enjoy!

The Malabar

Indian "Monsoon" Malabar: Before the creation of the Suez Canal, coffee was shipped from India to Europe around Africa's Cape of Good Hope. The Indian coffee went from tropical humid heat to freezing sea air back to tropical humid heat to the European port over a 1 or 2 month period. This caused the beans to bleach and swell. Europeans became accustomed to this different taste, and when shorter (and more airtight) means of shipment arrived, coffee drinkers missed the distinctive 'Malabar' taste. Today, after careful hand picking (versus stripping in lesser harvesting regimes) these beans are dry processed only from Arabica Cherry Grade A. The dry beans are raked on the outdoor drying beds in India for 12-15 weeks to duplicate the effect of sea travel. The Malabar will be available for the next couple of weeks, absolutely fresh and roasted to perfection. Stop by for a cup, or bring the brew home!

Bonfire Latte

Ahhh Summer... Nothing quite like sitting under the stars toasting marshmallows over a crackling campfire. Of course you can't have toasted marshmallows without making S'mores. They are an essential summertime treat. Now you can capture the S'mores experience in a cup!

The new Bonfire Latte!!

The Bonfire Latte has everything you love about S'mores. Real Hershey's chocolate mixed with espresso, marshmallow syrup. Top it all off with whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs, chocolate syrup and a marshmallow.

It's much easier to sip your S'mores rather than making them the traditional way. Much less mess!! ; )

All the creaminess, melted chocolate-ness of a good old-fashioned s'more... in latte form.  Graham cracker crumbles on top, of course!  Let us know what you think of this new fun treat, it'll be hard not to indulge in s'more.

(You can get it Iced, too!)

Delicious Sumatra

This is a semi-wet processed coffee bean, which yields a unique taste to the cup.  Some find it earthy, heavy bodied and rustic, while others taste more of a refined complexity in it.  We think that just a teaspoon or two of the local honey we keep in stock brings out the syrupy rich highlights in a good cup of French Pressed Sumatra Mandheling.  What do you think?

We invite you to try this featured coffee for the next two weeks. We have decaf in stock as well.

New Tea and More!

Fresh Tea, on-hand: White Peach

Hand crafted, white tea made from only select leaves layered with real peach.
White tea is made from the buds of the Camellias Tea Plant and minimally processed to prevent oxidation. Although it is called "White tea", the color of the tea is more of a pale yellow. The subtle, floral notes in the brew pair delightfully with the ripe Peach.

Raspberries and Peaches just made Lemonade even more delicious!

New Frozen Drink Special:

The past weeks of heat have really been getting to us here!  Other than our newest Frappe specials, which have become fast favourites, we've decided to throw something else into the blender for a frozen spin.  This week and next, there are two fruity frozen lemonade drinks available on special for only 2.49!
Raspberry Lemonade &
Peach Lemonade!!
Starting with a cold lemonade base, we toss in some flavoured syrup, frozen fruit, and ice. Blend on high, and viola!  A fresh delicious Frozen Lemonade made with real fruit! Stop by the shop to try one this week, and next!

This week's coffee: Ethiopian Yirgacheffe

This week's coffee is Ethiopian Yirgacheffe...

Ethiopia is where coffee originated! "Bun" is Ethiopian for "coffee" and "Kaffa" is the region where it was originally found growing wild. So "Kaffa Bun" may be the origin of our "Coffee Bean".
Now Ethiopia is the world's 7th largest producer of coffee and produces some of the most sought after beans.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe beans are wet processed before roasting. This gives them a brighter acidity and a cleaner taste as opposed to a dry processed beans which yield more of an earthier taste.

This aromatic brew gives off a subtle floral scent with notes of citrus. The coffee has a vibrant,  honey sweet taste with undertones of fruit and wine.

Delicious New Special!!!

This two-week special is a coffee-free drink, for our customers who don't drink coffee.  Because we still love you too!

Raspberries and Dark Chocolate have been a great pair in all sorts of recipes from bakeries to bars, and of course paired well with coffee!  This Frozen Frappe Drink is a great way to enjoy the warm weather with a cold, tart, dreamy flavour.  A simply smashing blend of bittersweet chocolate and tart-sweet raspberries earns it the name ...
Raspberry-Chocolate Shocker
Try one with or with-out cream.  It's available this week and next, then further upon request with availability of ingredients.  For the coffee-lovers who want to try a different spin on this fabulous frappe, we recommend a double-shot of espresso tossed into the mix.  Don't be shy, just tell us: "spike it with coffee!" .

Have a great week!

Think about it!

We found this infograph just browsing the interwebs. We can't personally vouch for the quality of the coffee from the coffee bean direct people in particular, but they sure do have a great point!! This is something we've been trying to help people to understand. K-Cups are NOT good value, or even good coffee! Here is why: The K-Cup Debate infographic
From: Coffee Bean Direct Our coffee here in store is freshly roasted on demand, ready for brewing in less than a day, and always easy to make. It costs around $8 a pound and is very high quality 100% Arabica. Compare that to coffee thats been sitting in a little plastic cup on the store shelves for months. You'll taste the difference! -MCS
